How to Edit Fraps videos

FRAPs continues to be a powerful tool that’s still setting the industry standard for screen recording and software sharing. It’s easily the most widely used software in the gaming and blogging communities and welcomes new users with the simplicity of the UI - which is good as there isn’t an extensive range of guides or even a community forum. While it has many of the tools you’ll need to create powerful video content from your screen, one thing Fraps lacks is any video editing features, leaving you to source your own alternative. Luckily there are a range of dedicated editing suites that work well in conjunction, allowing you to create professionally edited videos in your own free time.

Video Editing Software for Fraps

1. Wondershare DemoCreator

Wondershare filmora stands out among video editing software due to its simplicity and the sheer versatility of the application. It’s intuitive and quick to pick up, allowing you to edit in audio and visual flourishes including colour corrections, fashion effects, audio edits, background music and sound effects. For advanced users there are features such as PIP, green screen and tilt-shift that allow you to create dynamically edited videos that will appeal to a wide audience and work with a wide range of video file formats. If you’re anywhere between beginner to semi-pro level, this is one piece of software that you don’t want to miss.

2.Lightworks

Lightworks is a fun program that’s incredibly accessible for beginners. It will allow you to make a range of basic video edits including simple corrections, red-eye, sharpen, crop, re-size, add borders, as well as raw file processing. The split-screen view gives you a before and after comparison that makes reviewing your work easy and it’s hard to argue with the cost, as it’s free. Pros will find this programme a little too simplistic and it’s unfortunately lacking in updates so it can’t compete with supported programs, but if you’re looking for the basic package Lightworks will fill your needs.

3.Windows Movie Maker

Windows Movie Maker is a household name (as you’d expect from software that comes automatically on a PC) that’s renowned for its simplicity and ease of use. It has a good range of features including stabilization, a choice of transitions, auto preview of effects, voiceovers and other audio features that have slowly come into the program over years of updates. As another video editing suite that’s perfect for beginner, pros and semi-pros won’t find all the features they need, especially for any advanced edits. Despite this, the support and updates continue to keep this household name fresh.

4.Avidemux

Avidemux is a video editing suite that makes Lighworks look advanced. It’s good for the speed and pure simplicity, ideal if you just need to make quick edits and cuts. The interface is bare and a little lacking, as are the features as it doesn’t have a central pool to import video or images and there’s no timeline with multiple tracks. Where Avidemux really shines is on the really simple edits such as clipping a video or deleting sections as the program makes them as simple as they could possibly be. For users looking for the very basic and even younger users just starting out, this is a decent piece of software that couldn’t possibly leave you confused.

5.Blender

Opposed to the simple editing programs like Avidemux and Windows Movie Maker, Blender is likely to leave beginners (and even more advanced users) a little confused. Primarily known as a 3D modelling and animation engine, Blender can also edit video. If you’re willing to invest the time to get to know the UI than Blender can be a competent and powerful tool, but make no mistake, it will take time to learn. As a free program it can seem too good to be true and it is – there are a few bugs which no-one has the incentive to fix which make it a slightly less than premium platform.
